Advent and Christmas Markets in Salzburg

Every year the traditional Christmas markets took place in Salzburg. The old town looks magical and besides getting Christmas presents and souvenirs you can also enjoy culinary fine baked goods. What would Christmas time be without our Christmas markets! One of the most stunning markets is the traditional Salzburger Christmas Market in the old town. But also a lot of others are drawing everybody’s attention!

Salzburg Christmas Market

The most famous christmas market is the one around the cathedral. The Residenzsquare and the Catedralsquare offer a lot of opportunities for Christmas shopping. At the beautiful decorated Christmas booths Advent wreath, Christmas cribs, Christmas tree decoration and various traditional souvenirs are on sale. Various mulled wine booths and culinary fine baked goods is a feast of all your gustative senses. Our insider tip: Enjoy a mulled wine and a yummy “Haunsberger“ at one oft the christmas booths.

“Adventzauber” in Hellbrunn

One of the most famous Christmas markets is the one in Hellbrunn. Especially for adults and children this market offers outstanding attractions (petting zoo, winter fairy tale train…) Besides the gorgeous decorated christmas booths you can also visit the magical crib in the palace of Hellbrunn.

Christmas Market at the Mirabellsquare

Also the christmas market in front of the castle of Mirabell is enchanting each visitor every year with his traditional charm. Mulled wine, culinary delicacies and aesthetic decoratetd booths present a magical christmassy image.

Adventmarket in the courtyard of Hohensalzburg fortress

Whether you arrive on foot or by funicular – high above the city’s rooftops – you will find a charming Advent market, which transforms you through the countless christmas booths and a colorful entertainment programm into a magical world.  Also the stunning view of Salzburg and its beautiful christmas markets is worth to visit. Local handicrafts, exceptional gift ideas and culinary delicacies offers specials for everybody.  Children will also have fun in doing their own handicrafts. The traditional “Christ Child Salute” by the Armed Fortress Guild will take place at noon on December 24.

Adventmarkt in St. Jakob am Thurn

Our special insider tip will be the Adventmarket in St. Jakob am Thurn. As opposed tot he other markets this one is very small and offers an outstanding ambience between a pilgrimage church, a pond and a small courtyard.

Culinary delicacies, mulled wines, chestnuts are offered at the small traditional booths. Specialities from the area (Speck, farmhouse bread….) are in great demand for take away. In our opinon this christmas market is a must-see for everybody!
